…back…

The time in Florida was marvelous and I think I spent most of it in a pool! The Boy's brother has a pool and we played over there like crazy. Spending so much time in a pool made me think…how do you get in? Do you slowly inch into the water? Do you just jump in? Do you inch in until it gets too much to bear and then dunk yourself? Also I am curious about water temperature. I am from California where the water is cold and the Boy is from, well lots of places, but his family ended up in Florida where the water is warm. I am partial to the cooler temperatures, whereas he loves it to be like bathwater (maybe I am exaggerating a bit). But really, do you thing that the water you love is determined by where you live? Can you get used to the warm waters on the Florida coast? Or do you still pine for the chilly turn your lips purple of your (my) childhood?

i think you should start a series — Wendy’s Questions. i love it when you ask them and i am particularly pumped about this topic. i just adore swimming.
that said, i don’t care for pools. i’ll hit them if i have to but here is what i am all about –

    - if i am alone i jump right in. if i am with someone {particularly R who is a real wimp when it comes to cold water} i inch in until just above the waist and then dive in.
    - i can do any water temp. i am from the midwest where i used to swim in lake michigan. the temps there were warm but not quite bath water! :) i LOVE waves!!
    - since moving to maine i have decided that swimming in the ocean is the closest thing to heaven. the saltwater and crisp temps make me feel so alive. i also love fresh water lakes & ponds where the temps are more manageable and they are SO clean.
    - the reason why pools are not my favorite is because the water doesn’t seem real. i know that is odd but i think it’s the smell. i feel like water that is swim in should have some kind of sea smell or almost a dirt or air smell. i think the clorine is the turn off for me. i guess i also don’t have access to tons of pools either!

wow. long comment. probably my longest ever!
    :) great questions, mav

i get 1/2 way in and then dunk! [mav- we are about the same!]

i like warm water…. not hot, but warm…. like hawaii… never been to florida so can’t comment on the water there….

i don’t like the chlorine in pools, but i love pools and swimming in general. i wish i went more often….

    welcome home

I will never, ever pine for chilly waters that turn my lips blue, but that is because I have lived on the Gulf Coast for 20 years! I do think it must be hard to get used to our warm waters if you’re not from here, but for me it’s the reverse. I would try swimming in New England or elsewhere, but I don’t think I’d like it, LOL.

Oh, and I love the Wendy’s Questions idea!

I can not swim in cold water, I have lived on the Gulf of Mexico my whole life (27 years) and I don’t even get in the Gulf untill the middle of July when the temps hir the high 80’s. I love the Gulf, but only when it is flat, I hate to wrestle with waves, I’m a float kinda gal. That is why I love to swim in a pool, it’s always calm, and by the way I inch in ever so slowly!!

The Boy’s Brother and I had lots of fun with you guys this past weekend!!! I hope you did too!! I, as you may remember, am an incher. The pool is perfect when it’s 86-88 degrees. You can walk/jump right in, but it’s still refreshing. … I vote for Wendy’s questions… it should be in the contents on your web page!! :)

I like to ease on in, but fairly quickly. If it’s cold enough, I swim like crazy once I’m in to stay warm!

Swimming in cold water is like taking a cold shower. How is that relaxing?
